Business Development Manager

Position Purpose

In Business Development (BD), we are obsessed with helping make JTI’s corporate strategy a reality. We are constantly looking for creative ways to grow JTI’s top line and improve our productivity across the business in order to accelerate our journey to number 1. But that’s not our only obsession. We are also absolutely committed to developing our talents and accelerating their careers within or outside of the function. Think about us as a “talent accelerator”.

As a Manager, you will be involved in every part of a typical BD project (in Combustibles & RRP), such as: acquisitions or divestitures of businesses, participation in privatizations, negotiations of joint ventures, manufacturing or license agreements with 3rd parties, assessment of new markets/products opportunities and various internal strategic priority projects. BD Managers are exposed to working across all functions, and regions. While you will report to a VP Business Development, you will have opportunities to work with every team member and engage with JTI functions, regions and senior management.

What will you do - Responsibilities:

Activities typically performed by Managers include:

  • Business research and financial quantification
  • Financial modeling
  • Participation in field visits and meetings with 3rd parties
  • Participation in discussions on various commercial aspects of the projects, preparation of internal presentations for senior management
  • Support negotiations with various 3rd party agreements
  • Drafting of BAPs, assistance in the overall assessment and coordination of the projects.
  • Maintain active awareness of government and competitor strategies
  • We expect all members of the team to develop their own ideas, challenge each other, while always moving initiatives forward.

Who are we looking for - Requirements:

The BD team thrives by having a team with diverse experiences and we look for a highly motivated and curious individual to join our team. BD projects require great commercial knowledge, an understanding of how value is created, and knowing how to make ideas a reality. As such, you can move to BD from any function. However, the reality is that you have to be comfortable and able to understand and interpret financials and key business drivers, given there is quite a lot of financial and valuation modeling involved.

A good financial model is built by:

  • Understanding the commercial levers of a business proposition
  • Recognizing and accounting for consumer trends and the regulatory environment
  • Understanding or predicting competitor strategies
  • Understanding capital structure and investor sentiment
  • Wrapping that all together in the financial statements (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet) and applying relevant valuation methodologies
  • The Successful Candidate should bring relevant business experience, ideally built internationally within multinational FMCG companies in the business development or finance (or commercial role with finance exposure) functions, or in consultancy/investment banking with a focus on transaction / project management. However, you may have more, or less experience… we don’t count the years… we simply seek exceptional ability.

    Education

  • University degree in Finance or Management, ideally with further relevant professional qualifications or MBA
  • Skills & Competencies

  • Self-starter with a focus on delivery and simplicity.
  • Excellent organization, project and time management skills, at ease dealing with challenges, imprecise data, unreliable sources of information and ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and negotiation skills.
  • High level of curiosity and motivation
  • At ease with cross-functional communications with other departments
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), knowledge of other languages is a plus.
  • PC literacy in MS Office, with emphasis on Excel for modeling
  • Are you ready to join us? Build your success story at JTI. Apply now!
