Senior Materials Engineer

Dietikon, Zurich, SwitzerlandEngineering – Optotune /Full-time /On-siteAre you ready to be at the forefront of creating groundbreaking optical products? Optotune is looking for an experienced Senior Materials Engineer to join our team and drive the future of optical technology.

Tasks

  • Build, lead, and inspire an interdisciplinary materials engineering team, following Optotune’s core values
  • Investigate, develop, and test new materials for product enhancement and access to new markets, with focus on polymers, thin films, metals, ceramics, coatings, and bonding technologies
  • Select the best materials for high-volume manufacturing and carry out feasibility studies
  • Define and implement structures for materials topics (handling instructions, safety, knowledge database, evaluation framework)
  • Stabilize manufacturing processes and improve knowledge and accessibility
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams (engineering, supply chain, production, quality), communicate proactively, and manage stakeholders
  • Requirements

  • MSc degree, PhD preferred, in Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent (e.g. mechanical engineering with additional education in materials field)
  • 5 years of broad materials development experience (polymers, metals, ceramics, MEMS, lab-on-chip) for production, preferably in a high-volume environment
  • Proven experience in formulating polymer-based systems, tailoring mechanical and optical properties preferred
  • Hands-on experience with thermomechanical (DMA, TMA, DSC, TGA) and optical (UV-VIS spectrometry, FTIR) material characterization methods. Knowledge of advanced chemical analysis methods (GPC, ICP-MS, GC-MS, HPLC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Python and related programming languages, particularly to assist statistical modeling (DOE, SPC), is an advantage
  • Experience in supporting Operations on materials topics (quality, supply chain, production)
  • Enthusiasm and aspiration for leadership

  • Proficiency in English required, German skills is preferred
