Optical Stack Application Engineer

Key Objectives of this Role:

  • The (display) optical stack consists of a cover lens (glass/plastic) including optical films/coatings and the optical integration of usually a touch sensor and a display;
  • As an Optical Stack engineer you will act as an expert for the display optical stack for the internal teams as well as towards the customer, leading technical discussions and supporting different departments (e.g. purchasing, quality);
  • Your main task will be the analysis of customer requirements, the design of an appropriate optical stack solution or discussing deviations with the customer, and the tracking of suppliers;
  • You will also support the core team in the development of new suppliers/technologies to advance the state of the art with regard to lens materials, treatments, etc.;
  • You will also be performing laboratory measurements pertaining to the optical stack (e.g. surface reflection, color measurements, free surface energy).
  • Qualification, Experience and Skills:

    Mandatory:

  • Bachelor of Physics/Optics or equivalent, material science with optics background. Master’s preferred;
  • Preferably several years of experience in the optical application field (e.g. optical metrology);
  • Strong knowledge in optics required (linear geometric optics) and in Industrial production process for optical elements (lenses, films, PVD technologies, Printing technologies,..);
  • Design experience in one or more of the following areas: LC displays or OLEDs, touch sensors, technical glass for automotive, plastics materials for optical components;
  • Experience with optical functional films and coating materials (AR, AG, polarizer, retarder).
  • Preferred

  • Optical component design and/or production;
  • Thin film coatings design and their manufacturing process;
  • Experience in optical bonding technologies;
  • Experience in structural bonding;
  • High levels of initiative, independence, and resilience;
  • Good communication skills, oral, written, and presentation;
  • Fluent in German and English.

  • Reporting Structure: Reports to the Associate Manager of the Optics team in Germany.
